Kid’s Camps—The Academic Camp Experience

Find the Right Academic Camp for Your Child

Does your child have a special academic interest, from math or science to music, history or acting? Would you like to provide them with the opportunity to learn more about their field of interest, in an environment that can build other critical social skills as well? An academic camp can meet a variety of needs.

Educators and psychologists agree that the camp experience provides unique opportunities for the development of a wide range of skills that lead to success in adulthood, such as problem-solving, listening, working cooperatively with others, and taking responsibility for yourself and your actions. The camp experience is designed to create a community where effort is celebrated, and where inclusiveness in encouraged. Participants get the rare chance to spend time with others of similar interest, guided by role models who help them develop critical skills in listening, talking, reflecting and sharing. As a result, campers build confidence and independence in an environment where they feel safe and accepted.

Academic camps are now available in an extensive array of disciplines. There are a multitude of computer camps, but also opportunities for kids who want to learn or develop skills in mathematics, journalism, and foreign languages. There are camps that focus on preparation for standardized tests, such as the SAT, as well as camps that allow a kid to spend supervised time in the wilderness or in a foreign country. There are also “enrichment” camps, focusing on subjects that have little or no application directly to academics, such as photography, cooking, magic and space camp.

We set up this web site as a resource for parents who want to find the optimal camp experience for their child. For detailed information about the different academic camp opportunities available to your child, visit our Kid’s Academic Camp Directory page.
